MHTU Fly Fishing 101 Class

September 13, 2026 from 1 to 5 pm

Location: Freedom Park Cabin, Town of Lagrange

Class is limited to 10 students (must be 18 yrs or older).

Most equipment will be provided, bring your own if you have it.

Class will be divided into 2 groups: Class room instruction (inside) and Casting/ On the water (outside)

Groups will rotate after 2 hours

Class room instruction topics include “Bug” Identification, “Reading” a stream, Knots, Choosing a fly, Ethical fishing

On the Water instruction topics include How/ Why a Fly Rod works, Preparing to fish, Waders and Safety, What to bring. Gear storage, basic casting, Line control on the water,

Bob’s legacy endures in the many lives he touched through the skills
and knowledge he shared, through his abiding respect for the
environment, and his commitment to protecting and conserving fish
and wildlife.

A memorial bench will be placed at the casting pond where Bob
spent many hours as an instructor. A brief dedication will take
place. Mid Hudson Trout Unlimited members and friends of
Bob Meyen are cordially invited.
